What is the Best Grilled Apples Recipe?

Whenever you think about grilling food at home, I highly doubt if you ever expected to find yourself grilling apples. This is because not everyone would imagine grilling apples. It is definitely something new and would need more research first.

Well, it might not be as new as some might be thinking. Grilled apples have been around for a while. People are even now including more recipes with some adding cinnamon and other types of ingredients to make their grilled apples even better.

In this guide, I look at some of the options you will have and how to make them the best for you. First, let us see the health benefits of apples that make so many people want to try them out more often.

Health Benefits of Apples

You might have seen many people being obsessed with eating apples. However, why is this the case? Below are some quick health benefits you should know about apples.

  • Best for blood sugar regulation

If you are diabetic, you could use the apples to help improve sugar regulation. This is thanks to the antioxidants such as polyphenols found in apples. These antioxidants will improve your metabolic balance while at the same time reduce the rate at which the body absorbs the sugar.

Any diabetic understands the importance of maintaining the blood sugar within the desired range.

  • May help with weight loss

The pectin fiber in the apples also help in lowering the body’s absorption of the dietary fats. This is because fiber also takes time to digest. As a result, it will make the user feel full for longer and also keeps the need for eating sugar laden foods to a minimum. So, in the long run, you will notice that the apples would help with weight loss.

  • Can help with smoother digestion

You are also likely to enjoy better digestion thanks to having the wonder fiber pectin in apples. This soluble fiber is important for improving your digestion to prevent problems such as indigestion.

The fiber works by drawing water from the digestive tract. You would now have an easier time passing the stool through the intestines.

Apples also have malic acid important for improving digestion too.

  • Apples may help in relieving diarrhea and constipation

You will never have to worry about the constipation when you eat apples. The fiber content will mostly help in regulating your bowel movements. Several studies show that pectin in apples will have amphoteric action. This means it can relieve you from diarrhea and constipation.

  • Protecting the bones

The apples can also be effective in strengthening the bones. They will play a crucial part in improving our bone health generally. Apple skins contain flavonoid phlorizin. This compound is important to prevent bone loss commonly associated with menopause. It will also fight inflammation and free radicals that might lead to bone degeneration.

  • May help reduce cholesterol

When you eat your apples more often, it can help in reducing the unhealthy LDL cholesterol. Also, they can help in reducing the possible oxidation of the cholesterol. This will result in reducing the chances of the arteries hardening. If they harden, they can lead to damaged heart muscles and blood vessels too.

As you can see, the list of health benefits of apples can be long. You never have to worry much about eating more apples. They will always have something positive to add to your life.

How to Make Grilled Apples with Cinnamon

You may have come across grilled apples already. What if you want to make it even better? I would suggest you add cinnamon to the recipe. Once such grilled apples are ready, you could use them as a side for grilled pork.

Another option of serving grilled apples is by eating the grilled apples with a vanilla ice cream scoop. Warm caramel would also do.

If you are ready to start making grilled apples, check out the recipe below.

What you need

  • ½ cup of water
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons of brown sugar
  • ¼ cup of lemon juice

  • Start by preheating the grill until it achieves medium heat
  • Proceed to core the apples then cut them into small sizes of around ¼-inch. Keep the peel intact at this stage.
  • Add water to the lemon juice. Use a large bowl to hold the apple slices together with the lemon and water mix. Soaking the apples in this solution will prevent them from easily browning until you start grilling.
  • Mix the cinnamon, sugar, and salt in a small bowl. Set aside this mixture.
  • You can now start grilling your apples. Proceed to place the apples on your grill rack and let them cook for around 8 minutes. Do not forget to turn them side to side until evenly cooked.
  • After the cooking is done, place the apples in a large bowl then sprinkle the cinnamon, salt, and sugar mixture.

If you have reached this stage, your grilled apples are ready for eating. Use them as a side fish when eating pork chops. You can always modify this specific recipe as you want until it works for you better.

You could still try out different recipes. That is what I also cover below. Let us see what other ways you can cook your apples to get more benefits.

Other Ways of Cooking Apples

Grilling is not the only option you will have when you need to cook apples. Here are more options to keep in mind.

1. Baking Apples

What you will need

  • 4 large apples
  • ¼ cup of brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • ¼ cup of pecans
  • ¼ cup of raisins
  • 1 tablespoonof butter
  • ¾ cup of boiling water

  • Preheat the oven up to 3750
  • Next is to wash your apples and then proceed to remove the cores. A melon scoop or any metal spoon should be good enough to do the job. Some of the best apple types of baking include Rome Beauty, Golden Delicious, and Jonagold.
  • Using a ship knife, score the apple skins lightly. Cut along the width of the apples. Make several cuts around the top, in the middle, and bottom sections. This is important to keep the skin from easily breaking when you bake the apples.
  • Mix brown sugar and cinnamon in a large bowl. Also, add chopped pecans or raisins to this mixture.
  • Using your spoon, place the sugar mixture in the middle of the four One tablespoon of the mixture should be enough for each apple.
  • Once everything is set up, add butter on top of the sugar. Butter will melt once heated to give you some nice and delicious sauce.
  • Next is to place these apples into a baking dish and add hot water. The hot water is important for keeping the apples from easily burning. Also, you could mix the juices the apples release to end up with a sauce.
  • Now bake the apples for around 30 minutes. You will know they are ready if the flesh turns tender and it can still be pierced by using a fork.

At this point, your baked apples should be ready to eat. Give them a couple of minutes to cool slightly before serving.

2. Frying Apples

What you need

  • 4 medium apples
  • ½ cup of butter
  • ½ cup of brown or white sugar
  • 2 tablespoons of ground cinnamon

  • The first thing would be to prepare your apples for frying. This includes washing and peeling the apples. Once peeled, you have several options. Either you core the apples then cut them into slices or rings. The other options are to cut the same apples into quarters or wedges.
  • Proceed to melt the butter in a skillet. Make sure to use medium heat. Tilting the skillet from one side to the other helps in melting the butter thus spreading it across the bottom evenly.
  • Stir the cinnamon and sugar mix into the molten butter in the skillet. You could use brown or white sugar. If you want the best flavor, opt for brown sugar. Keep stirring the mix until the cinnamon and sugar are evenly spread into the butter.
  • You can now add the apples into the skillet and cook them. Cook using medium-high heat. Cooking for five to eight minutes should be enough. Use a wooden spoon or spatula to turn the apples in the mixture.
  • Proceed to serve the apples when they are warm. Make sure to scoop several apple slices with the sauce too.

3. Stewing Apples

What you need

  • 6 cups of chopped and peeled apples
  • ½ cup of brown sugar
  • ¼ cup of apple juice or water
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
  • 1/8 teaspoon of salt

  • Before you can stew the apples, you need to peel them first. Proceed to cut the apples into quarters and remove the cores. Also, proceed to cut the quarters into small cubes.
  • You now have to put all the ingredients mentioned above into a large saucepan and boil them using high heat. Stir everything in the saucepan until you see the sugar dissolving in the other ingredients. Make sure to turn up the heat and wait for your mixture to boil. If you want the apples to be less sweet, use water rather than apple juice.
  • Once everything boils, turn down the heat a bit. At this point, just simmer the apples using medium-low heat. Keep the saucepan covered for around 25 minutes. Do not forget to stir the mix occasionally as it cooks. This helps the apples to cook evenly.
  • You should now let the apples sitin the pan for around 10 minutes before serving. Letting the apples sit will allow the flavors to infuse into the apples better. You will also now have apples cooled to a comfortable eating temperature.

4. Microwaving Apples

What you need

  • 2 medium apples
  • 2 teaspoons of unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons of brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon

  • It should be interesting to see what microwaving apples can lead to. Start by cutting off the apple tops then scoop out the cores with a metal spoon. The holes in the apples should be around 1 inch. Do not go through the bottom of the apple. Leave around ½ inch at the bottom.
  • The next step is to mix brown sugar, nutmeg, and cinnamon in a large bowl. This mixture is important that the apples can get all the important spices.
  • Place the sugar mixture into the apples using a spoon. 1 tablespoon for each apple should be enough for each apple.
  • Proceed to add a butter cube on top of the apple too. When microwaving the apples, the butter will melt into the sugar giving you a sweet sauce you will enjoy.
  • Set up the apples into a microwave-safe dish. Make sure to cover the apples with a plastic wrap. Make sure the dish has high walls to keep the apple juices from easily leaking out as you microwave the apples.
  • Microwave the apples for around four minutes. Consider that microwaves are different. So, keeping the microwave time around 3 minutes should be enough for most applications. When your apples are ready, they will turn tender.
  • Give the apples a few minutes before you can remove the plastic wrap. Be careful as there will be a lot of steam. Do not lean over the bowl when opening the plastic wrap. Giving the apples a few minutes before digging in is highly advised.

You should not worry much about grilled apples. They can be something new to your taste buds. The best part is that the grilled apples will also be tasty. You never have to worry that they will not be great.
